The Buddha was born into the life of a prince and renounced his royalty and wealth in pursuit of enlightenment. The saggy ears represent the effect of removing the weight of his jewels. The question “what does it mean to be rich?” alludes to the power of divine presence to shrink any material wealth in comparison.
